Vince Wrote E-Archive. Gathered Ideas for E-Archive
What follows is a summary on the subject of what we have learned over the course of our work completing several projects concerning Adult and Community Education for ECDAC631. We both collaborated extensively on how to approach and design this project. We have detailed how we arrived at these thoughts on our E-Archive. The archive is written to convey in a non-technical way what we have learned about adult education, outlining for the public key ideas about what adult education is, and how it can benefit them. The summary is simply that, a means of summarizing these thoughts in a simple synopsis, Thank you for reading and please visit our E-Archive and explore this group blog to see what we have been learning.

The Significance of Adult/Community Education
When discussing adult/community education it is important to consider three main components: the student, the educator, and the field. A closer look at each component will reveal significant aspects that contribute to and shape the overall experience of adult education. Together, they help to bring a focus to the broad definition of adult/community education – “...activities intentionally designed for the purpose of bringing about learning among those whose age, social roles, or self-perception define them as adults” (Merriam & Brockett, 2007, p. 8).
Significant Aspects
The Adult Student
Collectively, the following student aspects provide an understanding of the uniqueness of adults as learners and the instruction challenges they bring to the classroom. The adult student:• Comes to the classroom with experiences and a history.
• Utilizes prior experiences to base learning and to solve problems.
• Advances prior understanding to a deep level through the use of the five senses.
• Demonstrates potential through both informal and non-formal education opportunities.
The Adult Education Educator
The adult educator must respond to the ever-changing social and economic demands of the times to keep adult education important and relevant. The use and inclusion of technology, including social media and computerized instruction, assists in developing skills that are being demanded by the business world. Additionally, the educator:• Acknowledges awareness of the importance of the senses and create opportunities to connect emotional experiences with content to enhance understanding, memory, and recall.
• Collaborates with other educators and programs across the state, federally and internationally building a resourceful adult educational presence.
• Understands and supports the need for continual professional development to provide both educator and students with the best tools and practices.
The Field of Adult/Community Education
The Field is responsible for the global understanding of adult/community education. It assists in defining the broader stroke of the umbrella in which adult/community education exists. Additionally, it supports research and publication in efforts to further the field. The Field:• Is central to lifelong learning as it encompasses all of learning in adulthood.
• Promotes lifelong learning and citizenship for adults of all backgrounds.
• Provides formal education and supports non-formal and informal means of learning.
• Recognizes that true student success is dependent on personal, professional, and academic achievements and understands its responsibility for providing instruction in all those areas.
Conclusion
It is through the combined efforts of the student, the educator, and the field that adult/community education experiences growth and success. Each provides commitment and dedication that allows for meeting the ever changing needs of our world, creating a new generation that not only embraces the challenges of the day, but welcomes the opportunity to leave a renewed legacy.Reference

Haha, I can not image that you two created such an entertaining website! :) I think it is quite creative!

Hello, Darcey and Vince.
ReplyDeleteIt is apparent that you both love what you’re doing; it shows in every detail. Ball State might be wise to use excerpts from your archive as part of a marketing campaign for the program. Thank you for taking the time to bring the textbook readings and your research to life for the reader. You succeeded in translating otherwise mundane academic philosophies and research into applicable/personally relatable and motivational information for us. Your ability to use technology to enhance your vision for Adult and Community Education will help spread your research findings and your hopes for a better world through education. Thank you for always reaching higher. I hope you both get the best marks possible for your efforts.
Joe

Delete---- Totally agree what you said, Joe! :)

I believe your blog and your website were very well done. It looks like you enjoyed doing it. Your blog showed a great deal of information for the size of it, very nice. The only thing I would have liked to have seen different is your video on your website, near the end of it, the words/letters got really small. It just made it a little harder to read. Overall I liked your presentation on both the website and the blog. I look forward to reading everything when all is said and done. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteHey Joe, thanks for your kind words. I totally agree about the video. I noticed that but I seemed to be "out of time" when we published it. So, on your advise, I went ahead and fixed it after the fact. I had to add a colored background box behind the text. But you can read it now.
DeleteThanks Again!

I loved your E-archive! I thought it was quite creative and well done. I also think your blog summarizes the information very nicely. It's clear and concise which I appreciate. Great work.
ReplyDeleteUmmmmmm, wow! I'm not surprised at all at how dazzling this is. I actually wish I knew more about your process. Even though you claim equal responsibility, I have a feeling Darcey had a huge hand in the creative aspects. I would love to know how you specifically did the work. At the beginning when you only had two people and most of us had 3 or 4, I felt badly that you'd have to do more work. Now I really see the benefits. Working in groups is SO challenging! With two, did it flow a lot easier? Just curious. :)
ReplyDeleteI do think that it would have been different to work in a group of 2 instead of 4. I do see where it would have the down falls and the up sides. I think that for a group to have good communication, a member of the group can always be controlling of the subject matter and I think members have to communicate equally instead of just to one person and leave the others in the dark.
DeleteVince is actually the techno-wiz in our group. lol

Hmmmmm....it is difficult to really say exactly why it has gone so well other than from the beginning, we were able to develop a good balance in work load in addition to being able to really talk... we clicked early. Although it has been challenging semester, it has been fun and enjoyable! I am looking forward to possible future course work in which I can partner with Vince!
Very nicely done. I also used Wix to create our group website and like your idea of a scroll down site as compared to a more conventional “click to this page” tab site (which what I went with). Although, it still has links to the original and source material. Very nice aesthetic also. It really pops out to the user. Makes me want to do some “cleaning up” on our groups’ archive. Thank you for the presentation. I am glad your group was able to collaborate so well together.
ReplyDeleteGroup 4,
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the E-Archive. I think you guys had a really interesting way of having everything on the first page. We used the same website to make our and I think you guys alot more of the animations than we even thought about using. I wish I knew how to do all the technological things that you guys do.

Thanks for a very succinct written summary and creative web-site! I always enjoy your combined efforts.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I am somewhat intimidated with building web-sites and using graphics in my work. I am considering taking EDPS 611" Development of Creative Thinking" next semester. This encourages me to make that move!
Thanks for all your contributions.
